Girl Scout Cookies® are an American tradition and only available during select times of the year. Little Brownie Bakers wanted an app for iPhone and Android devices, as well as a mobile website that would make it easy for consumers to find sales near them during this limited window of opportunity in an effort to drive more purchases of Samoas®, Thin Mints® and other favorite Girl Scout flavors.

The Project

tmg-emedia worked closely with Little Brownie Bakers to create an application that enables users to search for sales near them, get directions, add to their calendars, and share the details with their friends via social networks. Additionally, users can find fun cookie facts, videos, and even recipes that enhance the spirit of the Girl Scout Cookie sale.

The app is updated in real time as Girl Scout councils schedule booth sales, with new sale times and locations constantly added.


The app was a huge success and won a 2012 Smartie Award from the Mobile Marketing Association. It has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times and still counting. The Cookie Locator generated national press buzz, and its branded content drove engagement in the off season. The enthusiastic adoption of the app led to two admin companion apps for tracking inventory and sales, processing millions of transactions.
